Mobility impairment is associated with greater mortality, morbidity, cognitive decline, and dementia, making it a major health care priority and central to physical, mental, and social well-being. That’s why many now consider real-world walking speed to be the 6th vital sign.

But despite its importance, it has been difficult to generate regulatory-acceptable endpoint measures for use in clinical trials, real-world assessment of mobility, and improved patient treatment.

That is, until now. Kristen Sowalsky, PhD, the Director, Clinical Science and Consulting for Wearables and Digital Biomarkers at ERT, will share the latest advancements in wearable technologies, revealing how they provide new opportunities to objectively quantify patient functional mobility by obtaining precision motion data in clinical and real-world settings. Her DPharm 2021 session will focus on:

  • How best to measure specific mobility endpoints that are both sensitive to change and meaningful to patient quality of life

Dr. Sowalsky leads the science advisory services for Wearables & Digital Biomarkers at ERT. With an advanced background in applied neuromechanics, kinesiology, and exercise science, including 6 years as a provider in clinical practice, she consults with clinicians, researchers, and product technologists providing scientific evidence and advice to sponsors on meeting clinical trial study objectives related to:
